Greetings from Ayang Trust,
This is a letter to our closest friends and family, on whom we think we can rely on today for something meaningful.
Today, we seek support from you because we know you have always seen us beyond just our projects. You have known, witnessed and connected with the people who are driving forward the mission of Ayang. Today, more than ever, we are counting on that connection.
Back in the early days of our journey, our small team shared just one modest room near the main Garamur town, with a dedicated space for a library on one side which people came to know as Ayang library or “a library of love”. That room didn’t have much. A few chairs, a couple of tables, and often, more purpose than space. We figured things along the way as support kept pouring in.
As new projects slowly took shape and our work began to take root, our team began to grow and so did our need for space. We moved into a small Assam-type house, in the same area where the District Administration's office was located. This time, we had a kitchen area, separate washrooms, and a few more rooms such as a meeting room that allowed our project teams to work in dedicated spaces. However, with no space big enough to hold our growing library, we shifted the library to a community-owned space in a nearby village.
Today, after eight long years, we have finally found a space to call our own a home for our growing team of over 50 members, spread across three floors. Behind us, a quiet, picturesque forest stands quiet and tall! Near the kitchen is a beautiful dining area, built in the traditional Mising Sang-Ghar style, honouring the community that has deeply shaped and inspired our journey. On the ground floor, our beloved "Ayang Library" finally finds a permanent home, with space for books, stories, and creative corners to grow.
Our shift in the month of June this year to our new office has made us realise just how much we can do with the space and how we can offer more to our team by designing thoughtful, innovative spaces. It has also made us reflect on the kind of infrastructure we need to build so that this place not only supports our work, but also carries our memories, our journey, and the spirit of everything we have built together. Our commitment to safety, wellbeing, and dignity of every member of our team is our utmost priority. Whether it is ensuring comfort in our physical environment, or fostering a culture of respect and support, we believe the strength of our work lies in the strength of our people. Through your support, we can procure essential materials and items to provide them with all the amenities that are essential for a safe, comfortable, and inspiring space.
P.S. Once we reach our goal, a little dose of love and gratitude will be making its way to your inbox! Straight from our hearts to yours.
With love and gratitude always,
Team Ayang
